André Maire (1890-1984) is the traveling painter par excellence.

From Indochina, where he completed his military service during the First World War, he continued to travel the world and observe the landscapes.

In France, André Maire has two workshops, one in Paris and one in Burgundy, in Semur en Auxois exactly. But it is the one in Burgundy that he prefers: he has a calm and regular life: in the morning he walks while drawing in search of the pattern, in the afternoon he paints in his studio and in the evening he reads. In these views of Semur, which date from the end of his life, between 1960 and 1984, we find the monumentality that these trips inspired in him.

His unique style combines ethnographic details and personal artistic expressions.

French painter, studied at the School of Fine Arts in the workshop of André Devambez.
